We are more than halfway into the first month of 2016, but we can’t help but look back on the year that was. 2015 had a lot of fabulous fashion moments…moments that made our eyes pop, and our mouths drop. Our celebrities sure did bring it, no doubt about that!
Here is a run down of our top 10 moments…
12. Honourable Mention for our 2014 Picks
We can’t start this list, without talking about our 2 favourite fashion moments of 2014; Kunbi Oyelese at Music Meets Runway 2014, and the trio of Ifeoma Williams, Banke Balogun and Funke Fowler Kuku at the Tiffany Amber at 15 event.
We don’t know if it’s pure coincidence that our favourite looks of the year were in monochrome white and black, but what we do know is that these ladies killed it for us! Kunbi’s all-white ensemble was pure perfection! The turban was controversial, but we loved the innovation and creativity of it! Loved, loved, loved it! And as for the trio of Ifeoma, Banke, and Funke…these ladies took us to SCHOOL about how black and white should be worn. We loved Ifeoma’s look the best…the print tie-shirt, diamante chocker…everything about it was awesome! Definitely our 2 favourite looks of that year.
11. Honourable Mentions for 2015
These looks didn’t quite make our top 10 looks of the year, but we did love these looks, and think they should be mentioned anyway! Beverly Naya at the Grand Finale of Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015 and Mercy Aigbe being her glam self on Instagram!
Beverly! Where do we start with you? This girl just kept bringing it in 2015, every outfit was a hit, back to back (okay, we couldn’t resist that one). This fringed, sheer number was so trendy and on point, but still so chic! She was definitely the show stopper that night! Awesome! And Mercy! Mercy is a fashionista, any day any time! Scrolling through her Instagram feed is a feast for the fashion lover’s eye! But this was the look that caught our attention the most! Casual chick at it’s best! You killed it girl!
Now, we begin our countdown proper!!!
10. Juliet Ibrahim, at the Ovation Carol 2015
This outfit didn’t trend on Social Media that day for nothing. Jeremiah Ogbodo, Celebrity Stylist, killed it! He styled her for this event, and it was so dramatic and unexpected, and oh-so-complimentary to her body and skin colour. We loved the red and white effect, the hand crafted diamante detailing, and the faux feather merman bottom. Glamtastic!
9. Rita Dominic at the Keystone Bank Pink Account Launch
One of our favourite female celebs, Rita Dominic, is fabulous in this Tiffany Amber number. The colour, the fit, the draping, the emerald stone effect…she looked regal, sophisticated, and drop dead gorgeous in this number! Definitely one of our favourite looks of the year!
8. Beverly Naya at the Tinsel Charity Ball
Miss Naya makes it on our list again, in this number she wore to the Tinsel Charity Ball. Stunning in Ejiro Amos Tafari! With the cape and cut-out detail, the outfit is so on trend! And with her curves, mama mia, this girl s.l.a.y.e.d. it that night! We have our eyes on you in 2016, Bev! Mmmmm hmmm!
7. Dakore Akande at the AMVCA 2015
This outfit was dreamy perfection! She stepped on that red carpet and took our breath away! The colour blocking purple and yellow effect, the hand crafted flower detailing, the romantic tulle paired with the exotic lace, it was a triumph for the young designer, Folu Ajayi, of the House of Dabira, and winner of the Zinkata Red Carpet Challenge. We loved it!
6. Genevieve Nnaji at the Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015
Genevieve slated it, in this Tiffany Amber number! So androgynous, but still so sexy! We love how the shirt was femmed up with the taffeta jacket and the black sequin detailing, and those uber skinny pants. And styling it with that bottle green clutch, and simple black stroppy shoes, just turned up the chick factor. And let’s not even start with her hair and makeup! This woman can do no wrong!
5. Dolapo Oni Sijuwade in her Wedding Reception Outfit
Dolapo pushed the envelope with her wedding reception outfit, and we hail her for that! We know we’re going to see more of this look in wedding reception outfits, in 2016! But can we talk about the look? Can we? This girl is a FASHIONISTA to the core!!! This outfit by Krikor Jabotian (a former Elie Saab protege) was just everythaaaaang! The outfit on it’s own would fit on any red carpet, and we love how the little train at the back gave it more of a bridal look (because she was a bride, let’s not forget that). Dolapo, we hail you! We will remember this look for a long long time!
4. Toke Makinwa at several events this past Christmas
Our count down would not be complete without Toke. Any time, any day, this woman is a fashionista’s delight! She loves her fashion, and she’s not scared to show it! It might be surprising that this blue Wanni Fuga jumpsuit was our favourite look of hers last year, but it was!
3. Bolanle Olukanni at the Tinsel Charity Ball
Bolanle was picture perfect at the Tinsel Charity Ball! She showed us just how to wear the high-low dress! The tulle train, paired with that hot beaded number, was pure magic…and was even magical when she was in motion! And with those hot legs of hers! This outfit was a triumph! She justified why she is one of our style crushes here on Chickality!
2. Bonang Matheba in Lagos to present The Future Awards
With this outfit, we finally saw what all the fuss was about, and why our South African brethren don’t play with her. We really have no words for this outfit. We just can’t find any adjectives for this look. The closest one we can find is FLAWLESS! And styled to perfection! That string of pearls!!! We love how it was used to sex up, and sex down, the outfit at the same time. This look totally blew our minds, and missed our number one spot by inches…
1. Genevieve Nnaji on the cover of This Day Style
Everybody BOW DOWN for the QUEEN!!! This wasn’t a red carpet moment, but we are yet to find anyone who was not blown away by this iconic cover, done by T. Y. Bello! It single handedly blew every other contender away. It wasn’t so much the fashion of it (even though her longtime stylist, Veronica Odeka, outdid herself with the fabulous outfits), but it was the fact that the images, this one in particular, were so hauntingly beautiful that you couldn’t take your eyes of them. A big shout out to Maybelline New York‘s ambassador Bimpe Onakoya, who did a fabulous job with the makeup! It was definitely a great way to end 2015!
We hope you enjoyed our list! Please let us know what you think 😉
