Like a gentle wind, she stepped into our TV screens and won our hearts. Adesua Etomi, is currently on Nigeria’s leading actresses list. What makes Adesua special-outside of the screen- is that she is someone who is genuinely herself, (if you doubt this, re-listen to her short acceptance speech at the AMVCA). After snagging the Best Actress award at the AMVCA, she is definitely one to watch as she has just begun working on an international project. Chickality caught up with the stunning actress and in a tete a tete, she spills it all.
Chickality: Congrats on your win Adesua. We have to ask, did you see it coming?
Adesua: Thank you very much. No I didn’t. I tried not to dwell on ifI was going to win or not. I was just grateful that my work was being recognised. Frankly the minute I got that nomination I felt like a winner, that was the cake, the rest (wining) is the icing.
Chickality: You won your category, a category which had lots of A-list actresses, how do you feel?
Adesua: I feel blessed and honoured. I was in the midst of greatness, that category had incredibly talented actors. Who would have thought people would ever call my name in the same sentence as women I look up to? From Genevieve to Nse, wow and then Fulu, Belinda and Mary, it was amazing. Again, I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted and to Africa Magic for the platform.
Chickality: Everyone seems to be really optimistic about your career in the movie industry; do you see yourself at your peak?
Adesua: I’ve been doing this professionally for three years now, and I can count the number of films I’ve been in on one hand. So it would be foolhardy to consider this the peak of my career. I have so many more rungs to climb on my career ladder. I have a list of dream roles and characters I have to play. When the entire world knows that somewhere in Nigeria, there is a performer called Adesua Etomi, maybe. But the flip-side of being at your peak is that there are no more heights to attain. I want to keep conquering.
Chickality: You wore a stunning outfit by April by Kunbi, a look which was one of the best of the Night, how long did it take you to get prepared for the awards?
Adesua: Thank you, I love everything Kunbi has made for me. She has a way of making these things that fit like a glove and look stunning. It took a little under three hours, because I had to get my hair done and there was makeup too. The whole look took a handful of fantastic people to achieve. Massive shout outs to Kunbi for the dress, Yolanda Okereke for styling, Kemi Lewis for my hair, Tito Madu for my makeup and of course AhamIbeleme for taking stunning pictures of the entire thing.
Chickality: What’s your go-to look?
Adesua: I like to be comfortable. So casual chic I guess.
Chicklaity: Who is your best designer?
Adesua: Definitely April by Kunbi, I also like Toju Foyeh a lot.
Chickality: What’s your fashion fetish?
Adesua: I love shoes and then briefcases and satchels.
Chickality: What should your fans expect from you this year?
Adesua: They can expect more of Adesua. I’m particularly excited about two upcoming projects. The first I start shooting in the second week of April, and the next which is titled “And The Spirit Slowly Dies” will commence principal photography in May. It’s my first international film project and has production arms in Nigeria, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Chickality wishes the beautiful actress all the best in her endeavours.
